PepsiCo’s business in Japan is dynamic and strong, with clear leadership in numerous categories and many exciting innovations. Tropicana holds the No. 1 spot in 100% juices. Doritos is the leading tortilla chip, and the Mike brand, which was acquired by PepsiCo in 1967, is the top popcorn. Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and 7Up are also players in the market.
Succeeding in this market depends on consumer-driven innovation, as well as the partnerships PepsiCo Japan has with three local companies that manufacture and distribute our products:
- The company has a master franchise agreement with Suntory, our bottler for carbonated soft drinks.
- For the Tropicana juice business, PepsiCo has a 50/50 joint venture with Kirin Tropicana Inc. (KTI).
- Finally, PepsiCo is the largest shareholder of Calbee, which has a licensing agreement to produce and distribute Frito-Lay snacks
