About Wakayama YMCA

The YMCA was the first organization to establish an English school in Japan with its school in Tokyo. Wakayama YMCA began operating English language classes in 1977 and has continued up to the present time. Because of its long history in Japan, the YMCA has, over the years, become a household name within Japanese society and today maintains a reputation for offering high quality study programs and community assistance while keeping pace with the changing face of Japanese society.
Although the YMCA is a national organization within Japan the English schools operate autonomously, with larger city YMCA’s servicing satellite branches around the area from a central headquarters.

Wakayama YMCA is the one and only YMCA in Wakayama Prefecture. There are College of Human Care, Japanese language school, Correspondence high school, Wellness department which offers a variety type of sports programs, summer camps/ski camps for children, and After School program for special needs children, Language department which provides Preschool, English language classes for all ages and international programs such as youth homestay program in the USA, summer school, spring school for children, cooking class, English camps etc.
Wakayama YMCA also offers a wide range of volunteer activities including community service and youth development.
Wakayama YMCA has been supported by a number of members and donors through membership fees and generous gifts. Construction of facilities and many programs have also been funded by charity.
