Job Requirements:

We are looking for new Instructors to join our team who:

  • Are Native English Speakers / fluent English speakers*
  • Have a two-year Associate Degree or higher;
  • Are active and energetic, and have enthusiasm in teaching children aged 3-12;
  • Are independent and creatively minded, ready to innovate and adapt in any circumstance;
  •  Comfortable contributing to and working in a team environment;
  • Experience teaching English and/or working with children is preferable, but not required; as long as you are comfortable working with and playing with kids!
     
     
    *Our curriculum puts emphasis on pronunciation and phonics practice; while we of course welcome English speakers from a variety of regions with varying dialects and accents, we ask that you are able to effectively teach and express these concepts in a phonetically natural English environment.

Job Description:

Our very first i Kids Star school is set to open in the 2018 school year, in April. It will be located in Sengawa, Chofu, Tokyo, and we are looking to hire a vibrant, ambitious team to establish a platform for success for the first of many planned schools.

We are looking for 2 bright, friendly, professionally minded native English speaking instructors to join our current team and begin comprehensive initial training scheduled from January, 2018.


Each school will have a team of 11 staff with 3 main classes covering ‘nenshou’, ‘nenchuu’ and ‘nenchou’ levels, teaching students aged 3-4, 4-5 and 5-6 years.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Related to teaching English classes
  • teaches English classes and activities in an immersion environment
  • manages a classroom of up to 30 students (ages 3 to 6)
  • prepares weekly lesson plans
  • ensures that students reach their English goals
  • finds time to look for new activities, games, songs, etc.
  • marks student work
  • writes weekly comments for each student for parents to read
  • prepares report cards for each student (twice a year)
  • Teachers hired during a time when all teaching positions are filled team, teach and cover for teachers who are absent.
 
Related to being an i Kids Star kindergarten teacher
  • teaches students manners, proper behavior and basic life skills
  • actively interacts with students throughout the day, and participates in sports class, outdoor play, school events and helps in their preparation (Field trips, Workshops, Parent Presentation and Open Days, Art and Drama, Halloween, Christmas, etc.)
  • assists Japanese teachers in the running of their classes
  • assists in toilet training
  • cleans up when necessary should students become sick, or wet their pants
 
Other duties
  • works morning or evening extended childcare hours when necessary (7:30-9:00 or 17:00-20:00)
  • attend enthusiastically (and present as required) at school promotional events

An enthusiastic approach to helping organize and run events is a must and applicants that are adept with arts and craft, music, song and dance will be welcomed.

Career advancement opportunities are available for those looking to establish a career in Japan within education.

Hours:

5 days/week (Monday-Friday), 9 hours a day including a 60 minute break. Shift: 8:30 – 17:30, (occasional early or late shift work possible)

Holidays:

Three main Japanese holidays; Golden Week in May, Obon in August, and New Year, plus National holidays.
Paid Vacations (10 days) available after having worked 6 months.
