Job Description:

Yamagata's first and only English-immersion kindergarten is growing! We are looking for a positive and creative English-immersion kindergarten teacher who is flexible and values teamwork. As a kindergarten teacher, you will be on the move throughout the day, so it’s important that you enjoy being on your feet, running around with children, and occasionally playing in the rain and mud!

The position will begin in April 2018 with training in the 1-3 months prior to that, when possible. We offer ongoing training throughout the year, a supportive team, freedom to be creative in your job and public holidays off as well as paid holidays during spring, summer and winter.

Duties
This is a homeroom teacher position, so you are not confined to just teaching English. In cooperation with a licensed Japanese kindergarten teacher, you will be responsible for nurturing the children in your class in an English-speaking environment. In addition to English lessons, you will also conduct P.E. once a week and work together with the team to organize fun events such as performances, birthday parties and inter-class activities.  A few times a week, you will also teach MY Club, a continuation of the English program for our graduates. There are five working days between Monday - Saturday and hours are variable between 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Benefits
MY Kindergarten offers room for challenging yourself to grow as a teacher, to be creative every day and to have a lot of fun with energetic, loving kids! We love to see our teachers succeed, so we provide seven training days throughout the year for professional development. MY Kindergarten also sponsors your training for GrapeSEED, on which our curriculum is based. The starting salary is 270, 000 yen per month with 15 paid holidays a year, group membership in JALT, as well as lifestyle support (for finding an apartment or car). Additionally, you have the unique opportunity to contribute to MY Kindergarten in other concrete ways by joining one of our development teams.

Yamagata is also a great place to live. It is a scenic prefecture which offers plenty of opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Tohoku. Yamagata is perfect for nature lovers, as there are plenty mountains and rivers. The area is also packed with cultural activities and year-round festivals. If you ever miss the city life, Sendai is an hour away by highway bus and Tokyo is three and a half hours away by shinkansen.

If you are interested in applying, please submit your resume along with a cover letter, which should include answers to TWO of the following questions:

1) What do you feel is most important when working as an immersion kindergarten teacher? Give examples of possible challenges you will face and how you plan to overcome them.

2) Aside from teaching English, what is the role of the immersion kindergarten teacher in a child’s development?

3) What have you done throughout your career in order to better develop yourself professionally? What would you like to do in the future?

We’re looking forward to receiving your application!
