Job Requirements:

Successful candidates will be required to:
  • Have taught mathematics in English in an IBDP setting or have experience that is considered equivalent
  • Hold a Japanese license for teaching mathematics at a high school level or hold an equivalent license issued overseas
  • Capable of teaching all classes in English and have Japanese skills necessary to communicate with co-workers
  • Show a true passion for teaching with great communication skills

Job Description:

Hosei University is looking for a special foreign lecturer to teach math and English with the university’s international high school division. Located in Yokohama City in Kanagawa Prefecture, Hosei University focuses on helping students at all levels think independently and remain free of stereotypes. The university is currently in the middle of a ten-year project (ending in 2023) of working towards building a student base that can take these values and work towards building a sustainable and peaceful world alongside other global citizens. The high school IB course has around 20 students while the “Global Explorer” course typically has 45 (some students are in both courses).
As a Special Foreign Lecturer you can expect to:
  • Teach up to 16 lessons per week in English covering mathematics and English at a IBDP and IB levels
  • Plan IBDP mathematics lessons and “English Study” lessons
  • Administrative duties regarding student records etc.
  • Assisting with university events including marketing, entrance test administration and prospective student outreach
Working conditions:
  • 1 year employment contract, renewable by mutual consent up to a maximum of 5 times
  • 4.18 million yen annual salary with bonuses two times a year
  • Winter and school holidays on top of paid leave
  • Classes scheduled five days a week, up to a maximum of 40 hours a week
  • Reimbursed travel expenses
  • Enrollment in National Health and Pension schemes, Employment Insurance and Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance

Hosei University’s screening process will consist of two interviews, a demo lesson and a written examination in mathematics. Further details will be provided over the course of the screening process.
