Job Description:

Kobe Bilingual School (KOBILS) is looking for a full-time pre-school/kindergarten teacher for Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday at their school in Tarumi, Kobe to start in October or before (for training/transition).

The successful teacher will join our Kindergarten team who will reorganize as necessary, so there are two possible teaching patterns available with two different salary scales.

1) Monday - Friday - Teach a preschool class for 2-3 year old children who come to school 9:15-14:00 from Tuesday - Friday. There are just 4 children currently in the class, but the class is team taught with a Japanese nursery teacher. Thus it can suit somebody quite new to teaching who has a natural affinity with children, or an experienced teacher.

In the afternoons, the teacher would lead a "Gakudo" afterschool kindergarten enrichment class from 15:30-18:00, two times a week. Gakudo is a mixture of play and academic content based around a theme.

On Monday, the teacher would help out in Kindergarten in the morning with the 3-6 year olds, or teach a Gakudo class in the afternoon.

2) Tuesday-Saturday - Lead a Kindergarten class of about 16-18 children aged 3-6. Children start the day in a mixed age class but are separated into learning groups at different times during the day to learn with children at a similar age/ level.

Kindergarten teachers are both homeroom teachers of a mixed age class and learning leaders of small groups from more than one class throughout the day. Teachers team teach with a Japan qualified daycare assistant/kindergarten teacher.
On Saturday teachers lead a 2 x 2 hour grade level classes in Literacy and then Science for fluent English speaking children aged between 6 and 12 (one class is 10-15 children studying at the same grade level). Position 2 requires a more experienced teacher, which is reflected in the salary.

Teachers can expect at least two prep sessions a week (one morning/one afternoon or two afternoons etc). Teachers teach 42-43 weeks of the year, 40 weeks term time plus Summer School/Gakudo of up to three weeks, and are on-site 40 hours a week. Paid holiday is 25 days, and should be taken as much as possible outside term time and scheduled courses. Shakai hoken insurance paid.

Furnished school sponsored apartments available at ¥52,000 (single) - ¥75,000 (family) in Tarumi. Employee children who meet our enrollment criteria can join the school at up to 100% tuition subsidy (annual fees apply).

Wages
Monday-Friday schedule: ¥230,000-¥260,000.
Tuesday - Saturday schedule: ¥270,000- ¥300,000.
Salaries are reviewed annually and can increase by between 5-10%.

For position 2, Tuesday - Saturday, teachers must be either qualified teachers (to teach in own country not TESOL) or have at least two years experience teaching in an international school. They must have strong writing skills and native level spoken English. They must be interested in taking on projects which will advance the whole school.

For Monday-Friday schedule, teachers can be native or near native speakers of English; written English skills are of lesser importance. For Monday - Friday, experience is preferred but enthusiasm, motivation and an ability to naturally connect and interact with children are the most important criteria.

Location
Please note: It is not possible to commute from Osaka or Kyoto for this position, so if you live in Osaka, you must be prepared to move to Kobe. If you are going to move to Kobe for the position from elsewhere in Japan or Kansai, assistance setting up an apartment is given to those living in school sponsored apartments in Tarumi.

Application
Please apply with a cover letter saying which position (M-F/T-S) you are interested in and why you would suit this job. Sponsorship is possible but applicants with visas are preferred due to the short hiring time-frame.
