Job Description:

FLIR Integrated Imaging Solutions (IIS), a division of FLIR systems, headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, addresses mainly 2 growing markets: Machine vision for the largest part of our activities, and People Analytics.

Regarding Machine Vision: we provide to machinery manufacturers or system integrators imaging products and solutions that are used for quality inspection, measurement, traceability, vision guided automation, and intelligent traffic systems. Regarding People Analytics: we are currently focused on Retail Analytics, and we provide imaging products and solutions that are used to measure retail customers traffic, customers queuing time, customers flows in the retail space; Essentially our People Analytics products help to replicate the equivalent of web analytics in the physical world.

We are looking for a Technical Product Manager dedicated to our visible wavelength machine vision camera and software products used in industrial inspection, intelligent traffic systems, scientific instruments and much more. The Technical Product Manager will be responsible for identifying and organizing product and feature requirements and sprints into an internal roadmap in addition to managing technical changes and sales performance of existing products.  This position involves close interaction with development leads, product architects, and key customers. A strong technical background is required. Job duties include gathering market problems from existing and potential customers as well as recent evaluators, associating these with product requirements, organizing the requirements into a backlog, prioritizing the requirements, monitoring the implementation schedule and approving minimal feature set needed for launch. 

Detailed Description:
  • Deep dive into targeted market segments with the objective of identifying differentiation opportunities and translating these into specifications
  • Review incoming product requests, identify market problems (MP) or user stories, work with engineering to complete internal feasibility
  • Summarize expected revenue and cost associated with the product request, work with the Product Line Manager to promote market problems or user stories to development
  • Create product requirements documentation (PRD) identifying MPs, Applications and Personas to be targeted
  • Evaluate competitor feature set and user experience, understand Point Grey’s product benefits and opportunities for improvement
  • Through New Product Introduction meetings and process, monitor and motivate progress of new product development and release by working closely with Engineering, Test and Manufacturing to evaluate customer facing blockers and provide product marketing with visibility to schedule changes
  • Review Formal Assessment Report summaries and attend support meetings to ensure the information shared does not misrepresent the product or generate false expectations with customers
  • Oversee custom enhancement requests from initial feasibility review through delivery, keeping Engineering and Sales updated on status
  • Manage technical product changes (e.g. investigate and assess impact of issues and proposed changes, notify customers of changes, assist with component last-time-buy decisions, recommend and manage product discontinuations)
  • Track, analyze and model/forecast sales performance of existing products
  • Develop product demonstrations for industry tradeshows to highlight features or products targeted for the tradeshow in question
  • Work with sensor, optics and accessory suppliers to identify and learn about new technologies and peripherals that can address customer problems
     
Requirements:
  • Technical degree or diploma preferred (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science etc.)
  • 3+ years in a customer facing role
  • Strong, proven technical aptitude: familiarity with hardware and software, interfaces (USB, Ethernet etc.), technical troubleshooting
  • Experience tracking, analyzing and forecasting product sales using various tools such as CRM systems (e.g. SAP, Microsoft Dynamics) and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience working with engineers and other technical employees
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience working in cross-functional role with Engineering, Support, Marketing, Sales and directly with distributors and end-customers
  • Technical writing (documenting product issues, requirements, changes etc.)
  • Drive for continuous improvement
 
Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Understanding of/experience in machine vision industry: industrial cameras, sensors, interfaces, related peripherals and technologies
  • Knowledge of machine vision application areas and associated camera requirements
  • Experience testing hardware and software to verify correct operation or identify and document problems/shortcomings
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment (including hardware testing and supply chain)
  • Experience with product pricing methodologies and currency exchange
  • Experience working in an ISO9001 company
  • Pragmatic Marketing Certification
