職務要件

We are seeking teachers for our afterschool facility that are:

  • Native (or native level) English Speakers
  • Like and enjoy working with children
  • Able to interact with children, parents/guardians, and other staff in a positive, friendly and professional matter
  • Teaching experience (as a daycare provider, English teacher, online instructor, etc.) is a plus but not a requirement
    • Applicants with no prior teaching experience will be provided with on-the-job training
  • Japanese language proficiency is appreciated but not required

Basic Education and Experience Requirements:

Candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria

  • Possess a 4-year college degree, an equivalent, or higher
  • Possess 3 or more years of experience in English language education, early childhood development, or related fields

Criteria for “Native Level” English Designation:

Candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria

  • Completed 12 years of education with English as the primary language of instruction
  • Able to present test scores or certificates demonstrating proficiency at levels equivalent or greater than the following:
    • Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
      • C2 – “Proficiency
    • Cambridge English Qualification (Formerly “Cambridge English: Proficiency”)
      • 200 or higher – C2 Proficiency
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
      • 8.0 or higher
        • Test must have been taken within 2 years of applying to Meiko Kids e
      • IELTS is Meiko Kids e’s preferred test for English language proficiency.
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
      • iBT (Internet-based test) – 115 or higher
      • ITP (Institutional Testing Program) – 650 or higher
      • Test must have been taken within 2 years of applying to Meiko Kids e
    • Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC)
      • Listening and Reading – 945 or higher
      • Speaking and Writing – 400
      • Tests must have been taken within 2 years of applying to Meiko Kids e

Note 1: For the purpose of working at Meiko Kids e, The Eiken Foundation’s Test in Practical English Proficiency (EIKEN) and Linguaskill tests are not accepted as proof of proficiency.

Note 2: Those who cannot demonstrate proficiency through any of the above means will have their cover letters and other related application materials screened for proficiency language professionals at Meiko Kids e Headquarters. Speaking a listening proficiency will be assessed during a pre-interview meeting or by way of video interview (to be submitted alongside the job application or to be requested before the first official interview). By submitting an application to Meiko Kids e, applicants agree to be subject to the screening criteria as set by the selection committee.

Residency Requirements:

Applicants must possess residency status that allows for mid-to-long-term residence in Japan or Japanese Citizenship

  • Preference is given to applicants with the following residency statuses
  • Permanent Resident
  • Long-Term Resident
  • Dependent of a Japanese National
  • Dependent (Dependent of a Permanent Resident)
  • Highly-Skilled Professional
  • Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Relations

Note 1: Applicants in possession of a residency status other than those listed above may not begin their employment until after they have applied and been approved for a change in residency status. Meiko Kids e can assist in the application process. However, an official employment contract may not be signed and work for pay may not begin until the new and valid residency card is in the applicant’s possession.

Note 2: Those applying from overseas or visiting Japan with the status of “Short-Term Stay (Tourism)” or visiting through visa waiver agreements may not begin their employment until after they have applied and been approved for a change in residency status. Meiko Kids e can assist in the application process. However, an official employment contract may not be signed and work for pay may not begin until their application has been approved and they have a received a valid residency card.


職務内容

Meiko Kids e “Native English Teachers” provide fun, creative, and meaningful experiences in the English language for children ages 3-12 years old at its afterschool care facilities. Unlike English conversation (Eikaiwa) or Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) positions, Meiko Kids e Native English Teacher are able to interact with their students outside of lessons during free time periods and special events. These interactions outside of lessons also gives the children more incentive to use what they have learned or pick up other language naturally through other activities.

“Native English Teacher” responsibilities include the following:

Basic Job Functions

  • Preparation and execution of daily English language lessons
  • Creation and maintenance of an all-English language environment for children and staff
  • Provision of basic daycare services for all children
  • Maintenance of school cleanliness, sanitation, organization, and overall safety.
  • Training and oversight of support staff
  • Assistance at promotional events including open houses, seasonal events, etc.
  • Consistent provision of feedback of student progress to school management and parents/guardians.
  • Other tasks as assigned by school management with regard to school operations, special events, staff management, etc.

Conditions

  • Work Hours: 11:00 – 20:001
  • Work Days: Monday – Friday
  • Days Off: Weekends and National Holidays*
  • Salary: ¥250,000 - ¥270,000 per month

  • Residency (Visa) support (status change/renewal) provided for applicants already residing in Japan with valid residency status.

Note 1: Work hours, days, and days off are subject to change based on season, special event schedules, public school holidays, and the needs of the Meiko Kids e location concerned. This also means that there is occasional work on weekends and holidays.

Note 2: Salary and commuting allowance amounts may vary by location

Note 3: As processing times for applications for new visas and residency statuses can take 3 months or more, preference is given to applicants already residing in Japan with valid residency status. Support for residency status renewals can be provided at the time of employment as well as during a teacher’s contract period.

We currently have an opening at our Meiko Kids e Ueno-Asakusa school in Taito Ward, Tokyo. This position provides for an exciting opportunity to become part of a small team and learn a bit about what it takes to operate a business while brushing up your teaching skills.
