English/Technology Teacher: Kobe (afterschool, fluent kids)

Starting between March and July 2020, experienced teacher with strong technology skills required in after school and Saturday program for fluent English children, aged 6-18. This is an excellent career position with a good salary scale for a newer or unqualified long-term Japan teacher. You will work with a dedicated and experienced teaching team, to impact the curriculum of the school with the chance to simultaneously work on additional teaching/technology qualifications.

As the successful applicant, you will both teach classes using a blended approach and work with the elementary school technology leads to further enhance and develop our technology program throughout the school. You will have at least three years experience teaching, strong writing skills, be interested in professional development, and be able to work with and, better, contribute to the development of a variety of technology options and Apps to deliver small group classes both remotely and face-to-face. We have a 1-1 iPad program for both after school and full-time students. Teaching hours are around 15-20 hours a week with the rest of the time devoted to curriculum development and helping out where needed throughout the school.

Initially the position will involve teaching mainly in the after school program with a Tuesday-Saturday schedule and evening work on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (no split shifts). It is possible for trained teachers to change to the elementary school (Monday-Friday daytime position)  the following April. There is also a chance for teachers with a long-term commitment but without formal teacher training to take a PGCEi to obtain qualified teacher status with study starting the following year. This course, and any other technology professional development would be subsidized by the school.

Experience, enthusiasm, and the ability to work unsupervised are key requirements. Strong Japanese skills are helpful although Japanese is not usually used in the classroom.

25 paid holidays a year including most public holidays. Accommodation (up to 3LDK) and moving assistance available; shakai hoken health insurance/pension provided. Child-care and/or heavily subsidized full-time schooling is available for English-speaking children aged 6 months - 10 years old. Free tuition is available for after school classes for family members aged 3-18.

Minimum two year commitment.
