School Counselor (K5-G9) / Full-time

Accepting applications for a school counselor for Kindergarten through Grade 9. Working hours are 8:00am - 4:00pm, Monday-Friday.

Candidates are required to meet the following criteria:

• Two years counseling experience  elementary/middle school students
• University degree in school counseling for children (Master’s preferred)
• Counseling / Social Work Certification
• Three reference contacts

Key Responsibilities

Direct Service:

• Collaborate with teachers to provide social and emotional support to all students
• Assist students to resolve social/emotional issues through individual and small group counseling
• Provide support to students and families going through transitions (e.g. new students)
• Monitor ‘at-risk’ students
• Collaborate with teachers to provide classroom guidance through the Core Essential Values curriculum as well as other resources
• Maintain up-to-date information about and access to community resources for assessment and mental health providers
• Work to provide opportunities for parent education

Curricular:

• Collaborate with the administration and ASK teachers to develop and deliver educational programs appropriate for students with additional needs
• Assist in overseeing the implementation of the Core Essential Values program

Advocacy:

• Support faculty and parent understanding of student emotional and social needs
• Work to ensure that student wellbeing is at the forefront of school policies and procedures

Candidates must demonstrate a solid understanding and ability to be a team player, flexible and dedicated. They have strong interpersonal and intra-personal abilities and record-keeping skills. Pay rate depends on experience and education. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process.

Position starts Mid-August, 2020.
