This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing organization of 150+ team members around the world. You will play a significant role in helping the organization thrive by shaping and leading key HR initiatives, fostering a strong company culture, and ensuring operational excellence across the HR and Admin teams.

This role will be based out of our Tokyo Academics office in Nishiazabu, during our regular business hours (10 AM – 7 PM Japan Standard Time).

Key Responsibilities:

HR Leadership

  • Oversee and lead the HR function across recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, compliance, people & culture, and others.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies, policies, and initiatives that align with the company’s overall objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations, particularly in Japan.
  • Lead talent management strategies, including career development, succession planning, and retention initiatives.
  • Collaborate with department heads to assess and fulfill HR needs, including workforce planning and capacity building.

Administration

  • Oversee the administrative functions to ensure efficient operations, including office management, facilities, and general office support.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize administrative processes and implement best practices for operational efficiency.

Strategic Planning and Advisory

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the executive team, providing insights and recommendations on organizational development and workforce strategy.
  • Analyze and present data-driven insights on HR metrics, including turnover, employee satisfaction, compensation trends, and others.
  • Advise leadership on emerging HR trends, especially within the Japanese market.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in HR roles, with at least 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Japan’s labor laws and HR practices.
  • Proven experience in managing HR functions within a multinational or diverse company environment.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in driving cultural initiatives and promoting employee engagement.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence senior management.
  • Fluent in both Japanese and English.

Our ideal candidate is:

  • Magnetic - You naturally encourage parents and students to leverage opportunities that further their immediate and long-term goals: lessons, classes, consulting, scholarships, etc.
  • Inspirational - You inspire and establish credibility with partners, clients, and staff.
  • Entrepreneurial - You drive business growth. You look for new opportunities and ways for the company to achieve its goals.
  • Nurturing - You are committed to mentoring and encouraging your teammates and the families your organization serves.
  • Disciplined - You know when to apply a soft touch or discipline as needed: to both students and staff.
  • Professional - You are the model of professionalism, capable of consistently setting a professional standard for all staff at Tokyo Academics.
  • Passionate - You demonstrate an unwavering passion for creating a positive workplace culture.
  • Team Minded - You are a quick study, a strong and rapid communicator, and an energetic and collaborative team member.
