Job Description
Tokyo YMCA International School seeks a full-time, highly qualified School Nurse. Working hours are M - F, 8:00am - 4:00pm including some Saturdays and two annual school camp trips. Pay rate depends on experience and background education.
The TYIS Nurse will carry out proper nursing/medical practices to attain the goals set below and provide the following services for students, teachers and parent community:
- First Aid
- Medication
- to students
- medication records
- communication with parents
- Allergies & Medical Conditions
- student lists
- manage emergency care plans
- store medication
- Health Education
- puberty classes
- sex education for Grades 6-9
- Epipen lessons for staff
- teaching other health related topics
- Student Medical Check-up
- coordinate student health check
- Staff Flu Shot & Medical Check-up
- coordinate flu shot for staff
- coordinate medical check-up for staff
- Crisis Planning
- school manual for crisis management issues
- connections to ward office
- connections to other international schools
- Record Keeping
- attendance of student visits
- liaise with parents to update records
- maintain a safe and effective nurse/student office space
- act as a health resource to the school for various issues (equipment, staff/parent information, community connections, etc.)
- Camp Trips
- Fall Camp – October / 3 days, 2 nights
- Ski Camp – January or February / 4 days, 3 nights
Applicants must meet the following additional Requirements
- Degree in Nursing and valid certification
- Nursing experience with students in a school environment (highly preferred)
- Develop health plans for students with chronic illnesses and disabilities
- Detect health problems in early stages through regular screenings
- Update students’ medical history
- Ensure overall school environment is safe for children and school staff
- Ensure compliance with national and local health laws
