Job Description

If you’re passionate about education and have the desire to really make something positive happen in Japanese secondary schools, then this could be the job for you.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a Head of Program to build a brand-new international course fit for the 21st Century. It’s well-known that the current education system in Japan relies on fact-based, exam-focused, teacher-centered methodologies that do not do enough to prepare children for the realities of life as it is now. What if you could do something to change that?

We represent a private high school in central Tokyo which is planning to launch an international program in 2024. But it will be much more than the regular international courses aimed at expats and returnees. This course will be for regular Japanese kids, and will incorporate a range of progressive teaching methodologies to develop the students’ 21st Century skills. We hope this international course will provide the blueprint for a program that will also shake up regular Japanese programs in the future.

Together with the members of the project team, you will:

Before launch:

  • Design, develop and implement an international program based on the Cambridge International system, Cambridge ESOL, and CLIL
  • Design, develop and implement a comprehensive co-curricular system to support learning
  • Ensure above systems incorporate cutting-edge educational principles and methodology
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of at least two full time and two part-time subject teachers
  • Assist in marketing and student recruitment activities
  • Attend regular project meetings

After launch:

  • Teach one or two subjects
  • Line-manage two full-time teaching staff
  • Design, develop and implement an ongoing professional development program
  • Monitor and assess students’ progress and well-being
  • Ensure the program is running effectively

This is a hugely challenging project, but one that has the potential to be game changing in Japan. As such, we are looking for high-caliber, passionate educators who would like to make meaningful change to education in this country. You will be fully supported throughout by an enthusiastic project team comprised of members of the school board, educators, educational consultants, and the teachers you help to recruit.

Pay, benefits, terms and conditions are commensurate with management positions in the Japanese private education sector.
