☆Aichi: A Brief Introduction☆

Located in central Chubu, the heart of mainland Japan, Aichi is one of the largest economic and industrial hubs in the country. It is home to manufacturing giant Toyota - whose influence on the area is so strong that the headquarters’ encompassing town was renamed after the company - as well as regional branches of such mega-corporations as Fuji, Mitsubishi, and Sony.

Thanks to these companies’ largely multicultural workforce, the region offers a rich tapestry of ethnic diversity; more-so than other regions of Japan. There is a large Brazilian and South American presence, and its capital city Nagoya is famous for its ‘Taiwan Ramen’ and ‘Ankake Spaghetti’ - culinary fusions that are distinctly unique from their respective source countries’ cuisines. This is not to say that Aichi is lacking in traditional Japanese fare, however; regional delicacies such as its Miso-Katsu or crispy Nagoya-style Tebasaki are known nation-wide as a must try for visitors to the area.

Aichi also offers a variety of culturally rich and historically significant sites as well, such as Japan’s oldest original surviving castle, Inuyama-jō. It is also the birthplace of Japan’s three most famous Sengoku-era heroes – Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu. So whether you choose to indulge yourself in the region’s rich history, culture, and cuisine, or decide to explore the more modern technical and industrial wonders of Japan’s manufacturing powerhouse, Aichi is the perfect place to experience everything new and old Japan has to offer!
