Job Description

In collaboration with ELS Language Centers, Benesse, and Berlitz Japan, we are pleased to announce the opportunity for experienced English language teachers to work full-time (40hrs per week, including 25-30 contact hours) in Higashi-Osaka on a guaranteed income contract from August 2020 through the end of December 2020 (exact dates to be determined) at a leading university.

Due to international travel restrictions and health risks, students who would normally be studying abroad in the USA during the Fall semester will instead be taking an intensive, academic English language program on their home campus in Higashi-Osaka. We are seeking instructors to deliver the ELS Language Centers intensive English program curriculum to these students.

The program involves daily lessons in Structure and Speaking, Reading and Writing, and Communication/Presentation skills. In-person lessons with textbooks are supplemented with online learning programs. Textbooks, syllabi, and other supporting materials (lesson plans and supplementary activities) are provided to support instructors.

Essential Duties

  • Teach daily lessons to classes either in person or online as required
  • Prepare lesson plans, exercises, and tests following the standard curriculum
  • Test, evaluate and counsel students regarding their classroom performance
  • Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Coordinate instruction, attendance records and evaluation with other teachers
  • Participate in professional development activities and administrative meetings

  • have a minimum of BA or BS degree with a TEFL/TESOL certificate
  • have native English-level proficiency
  • are dynamic, mature and professional
  • are culturally sensitive and have excellent organizational and communication skills
  • are already residing in Japan with a valid work/residence visa
