Necessary:

1. Must reside in Japan or able to start by April 1st, 2024.

2. Must have native level English. We hire non-native speakers, but the level of English must be native level.

3. Be capable/willing to come and do a full-day trial lesson and observation OR have video of lessons doing similar work. When possible, we are willing to travel to your workplace and observe.

Do NOT apply if:

• You are of weak constitution or have poor personal hygiene.
• You cannot get down on the floor and play with children.
• You cannot lift and hold children weighing 20 kilograms.
• You expect/want students to sit down, be quiet, and take your lesson.
• You gossip or speak poorly of colleagues behind their back.
• You won't accept responsibility for the decisions you make.
• You do not ask for help.
• You do not offer opinions and thoughts when asked.
• The company's practices and decisions are separate from you.
• You are not conscientious in your private and public life.
• You avoid conflict and take feedback personally.
• You leave things unsaid or you do not accurately express your feelings.

Workplace:
Ichinomiya City, or Aisai City, or Nagoya City

Workdays:

• Monday-Friday (according to staff calendar)

Or

• Tuesday-Saturday (according to staff calendar)
• Saturday when voluntary overtime available

Work Hours:

• Monday-Friday 9:00-18:00

Or

• Tuesday-Saturday 9:00-18:00
• Saturday 9:00-16:30 when voluntary overtime available

Description:

This is a full-time homeroom teaching position.

Monday to Friday information about Head Start:

The environment is all English except during Japanese lesson times.

There are up to 16 students in a class.

The youngest classes, 2-3-year-olds, has 2 English teachers. The 3-4, 4-5, 5-6-year-olds, has 1 English teacher in each class.

• 9:00-10:00 Students arrive, and you assist them in putting things away and interact with the students.
• 10:00-11:30 Lesson time. Students have a Weekly Book that is broken up into daily sections that are to be completed.
• 11:30-12:30 Your break time.
• 12:30-14:30 Lesson time. Continuation of the curriculum.
• 14:30-15:00 Students will be picked-up during this time or go to the “snack room” and have a snack while waiting to ride the bus or be picked-up.
• 15:00-18:00 Eikaiwa class, Ride bus, Daycare, Clean your room, Lesson planning, Daily report, etc.

There are also Japanese lessons, dance lesson, PE lesson, music lesson, art lesson, and swim lesson throughout the week depending on the age of the students. Those are all taught by specialized teachers and you observe or assist as needed.

The main events throughout the year are, Easter, Star Festival, Summer School, Day Camp, Sports Day, Halloween, Art Festival, Christmas, Winter School, Performance Festival, and Spring School.

Saturday:

There are up to 16 elementary students in a class.

There are up to 12 kindergarten students in a class.

There are up to 8 preschool students in a class.

The students are divided based on age and/or ability.

The youngest students are 2-years-old and the oldest are 10-years-old.

• 9:00-10:00 Students will arrive and you assist them in putting things away and interact with the students as needed. Some will be doing self-study assessments with you.
• 10:00-12:00 Lesson time. Students have textbooks that they work through each week. Lessons will be reading, writing, listening, and speaking. A variety of materials will be used dependent on the level of the students. Lessons also include cooking, science, or crafts as part of the day and it will rotate on a monthly basis.
• 12:00-13:00 Your break time.
• 13:00-15:00 Lesson time. Continuation of the curriculum.
• 15:00-16:30 Watch students, clean-up, and write lesson plans for following week.
