職務内容
Do you like Nagoya, but not Nagoya prices? If your answer is “Yes”, then Tarui in Gifu is the right city for you. We are located 30 minutes from Nagoya on the local train. AES is seeking to hire a full-time English language teacher and did we mention … we are located 30 minutes from Nagoya. You can rent a 1DK for between ¥30K~ ¥40K a month!
We have a great program, excellent materials, and continued support and job training. The successful candidate will have their own classes and teach the same students every week, building strong personal relationships with them. As a school of 200 students, and growing, we are constantly researching and implementing new ideas, materials, and technology and welcome input from our teachers and staff to help us build the systems to expand to a second location in 2025.
Hi, my name is Lawrence and I love teaching kids. I’ve worked at big chain schools, as an ALT, done private tutoring, taught at private eikaiwas and I’ve seen the good and the bad. Based on that, I took the goods, made AES and we’ve built it up to 200 students. How? By being active in the community, going to festivals, joining every class I could find, even a square dance club for senior citizens! I talk with our students’ parents all the time about what they want in an English school, constantly play pranks on our students, discuss with our part-time teachers about our lessons, and buy lots of snacks for the staff. And now we’re looking to add a full-time teacher to expand
What we offer
- A monthly salary of 260,000 - 300,000 yen depending on experience and qualifications
- 20% non-teaching, non-lesson prep time to work on side projects like video-editing, enhancing / improving the curriculum, coming up with event ideas, etc.
- Tuesday~Saturday employment with two consecutive days off
- 40 hour work week (hours to be discussed during the interview)
- 20 days paid holidays chosen by the company + 5 paid personal days per year
- Transportation reimbursement
- Japanese language assistance will be provided for setting up an apartment, purchasing a car, and other lifestyle-related support, if necessary
- Small budget for personal growth (workshops, conferences, UDEMY courses, etc)
We would be a good fit for
- Someone who has taught at another school, but wanted more than just teaching lessons
- Someone who wants more creative freedom to teach the lesson you want to teach
- Someone who wants to create videos or work on other other creative projects.
- Someone who likes to build things
Because we are a growing school with so many new things to do, we would not be the right place for someone who just wants to teach their lessons and go home.
Other benefits
- Unemployment insurance
- Worker accident compensation insurance
- Family tuition discount
- Fully paid training
- Opportunities for growth within the company (based on performance, desire, and company needs)
- Online Japanese language lesson allowance
- Opportunities to participate in school-run events like BBQs, skiing, snowboarding, summer camps, summer school, trips abroad, city and school festivals
The Schedule
You will be teaching between 15-20 lessons per week with two or three preparation hours each day. The days and hours are Tuesday to Friday, 12 pm to 9 pm, and Saturday, 8 am to 5 pm. (8 hours shift + 1 hour break). Most lessons are 50 minutes long with JHS lessons being 60 minutes.
Our Lessons
Children learn best when they are interested and engaged. For our younger learners, we teach through play, song and games. As they get older, they take more ownership over their learning and can handle more academically challenging activities. We want our students to not only have fun in our lessons like they would at a bigger chain school, but to also grow academically.
We pride ourselves in our phonics and reading program that starts when students enter elementary. Through a carefully structured curriculum, students build a strong reading base and are gradually challenged until they are confident readers. Stronger students are given extra materials to keep them engaged, while weaker students are offered extra support from our staff so all students feel important.
Responsibilities of the position
- Prepare and cater lessons to students ranging from kindergarten to junior high school students
- Maintain a welcoming, non-judgemental, caring and open atmosphere during lessons with students and outside lessons with parents and family members of students
- Create and update monthly and weekly lesson plans for assigned courses
- Explain goals, procedures, and activities to other teachers
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff in a professional and respectful manner
- Participate and assist with school events
- Participate in regional teacher training, workshops, and conferences.
