職務内容

JobsinJapan.com is fast becoming the best and most useful resource for finding jobs for foreigners in Japan. To help more people and give our audience the benefit of many successful expats experiences here, we are looking for freelance writers to help us provide more consistent and frequent content on our blog.

This can either be a series of articles or just one. If you have some unusual or interesting experiences or information that would be of use for other job seekers in Japan, we want to publish it. Whether they are coming from overseas or living here looking to jump to a better job, your experience can help them avoid bad situations and move towards good ones. We are looking for those that would like to be a “sempai” for other foreigners.

The pay will be ¥8000 per article and will give you a chance to not only share your experience and expertise, but to make a little cash on the side while doing it!

Requirements:

  • Passion and love for Japan - We know that Japan has its faults, but we won’t be publishing articles that moan and complain about Japan and how much you dislike it. There’s a place and an audience for that and they are called a “bar” and “friends”. We want to help people find the best jobs and enjoy their life in Japan, so people who have a positive and helpful outlook are encouraged to apply.
  • A fun and engaging writing style - Laundry lists, while useful, are not fun to read. We want to publish work from people who can string a few sentences together, preferably with a sense of humor. Eye-catching, useful, informative or just plain awesome topics and titles that make people want to read all the way through and  preferably subscribe to JIJ by email, Facebook etc. Also we don’t really like the “Top 5 Ways to Bang Your Head Against a Wall” blog posts… so… don’t.
  • Proficiency in written English with a strong understanding of grammar, structure and how to use imagery in a creative and interesting way (aka, putting a picture in every now and then).
  • Previous writing experience preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent research skills - we do not accept plagiarism of any kind, and don’t want to publish factually incorrect statements.
  • You have to live in Japan. Obviously.

Your Job:

  • Writing articles of between 1000-2000 words. Length isn’t the only concern, but for our audience we’ve found the best articles are in this range, and no shorter.
  • Following our style and content guidelines when you write.
  • Coming up with your own articles (subject to approval) to write, with images, research and links to other relevant blog posts on our site. These may be edited and require a bit more work for you to take it to the finish line. We don’t promise to publish everything you write, so try and make it actually good and we won’t have to disappoint you.
  • We use Trello to organize contributors. You can learn, it’s easy!
  • Promoting and sharing your content to social platforms.
  • Meeting deadlines - research, collecting info and writing all take time, but we like people who meet deadlines once they are set.

To apply, please send us your CV/Resume and a very brief outline of your interesting story that can help other job seekers.

Helpful but not necessary: any samples of your writing up to this point.

This is a remote, freelance position. Ultimately, we are looking for writers who are interested in a long-term relationship and the opportunity for consistent, flexible work. If you’re kicking names and taking ass in Japan, we want to see your application.
