An Introduction to TEFL International Tokyo
TEFL International Tokyo is an educational institution dedicated to fostering community through language teaching and learning. Its guiding creed is to prepare principled, passionate professionals and to develop educators who believe in themselves and in the potential of their students.
Why your qualifications matter to schools
TEFL International Tokyo’s 120-hour course places strong emphasis on the philosophical foundations of Western education. The program explores the historical roots of culture and the ways language reflects traditional beliefs in Western society. It draws on the idea that learning another language expands how people see themselves and others, and it approaches education as a process of drawing out human potential. That perspective shapes the school’s aim to prepare teachers who recognize strengths in their students, build character as well as intelligence, and bring those values into the classroom.
What TEFL International Tokyo training covers
Trainees study Second Language Acquisition theory, teaching methodologies, and the principles behind Communicative Language Teaching. The course also develops language awareness and grammatical knowledge across word classes, modal and conditional verbs, sentence elements, verb tenses, phonology, and the International Phonetic Alphabet. During the teaching practicum, trainees learn to design, deliver, and evaluate lessons. Graduates who complete the program receive an internationally recognized TESOL certificate validated by the Paris University of International Education in France.
What differentiates TEFL International Tokyo
Its strongest differentiator is first-hand classroom experience. Through the teaching practicum, trainees work with Japanese learners across a range of age groups, from children to adults, and in both one-to-one and group settings.
Graduates complete a minimum of 10 hours of supervised teaching practice. That balance of theory and practical classroom work helps them set realistic learning objectives, deliver thoughtful lessons, build confidence, and reflect on their teaching for continuous improvement.
