Job Description

We are looking for Admissions Consultants to help students make decisions around their current high school trajectory and future college options, preparing them for the college and/or boarding school admissions process.

1) Senior College Admissions Consultant and Operations Lead (In-person)

As a Senior College Admissions Consultant and Operations Lead at Tokyo Academics, you will play a dual role as both a senior advisor to students and families and a key operational leader within the college admissions consulting division.

You will serve as a knowledge expert in the admissions consulting team, guiding students through complex academic and extracurricular decisions while also ensuring that the division operates with precision and consistency. In addition, you will be a primary point of contact for existing clients, helping maintain strong relationships and ensuring an exceptional client experience.

 

2) College Admissions Consultant (In-person)

Your primary responsibility as a College Admissions Consultant will be to work with students in a 1-on-1 format to help them make decisions around their current high school trajectory and future college options. You will be providing guidance and advice on a wide range of topics, including (but not limited to):

  • High School Course Selection
  • Extracurricular Activities/Independent Projects
  • Building a College List
  • Identifying potential passions/majors/career interest
  • Admission essay guidance

 

3) Boarding / International School Admissions Consultant (In-person)

We are looking for a professional Admissions Consultant with experience in the boarding school admissions process to help families and students navigate the complex admissions landscape, guiding them from school selection through to matriculation.

 

4) College Admissions Consultant - Art Portfolio Specialist (In-person)

We are looking for a professional College Admissions Consultant - Art Portfolio Specialist that specializes in art to help students prepare their art portfolios and navigate the admissions process for art schools and programs.

Given the wide range of student/family situations that potentially arise, successful hires will undergo in-depth training to gain a better understanding of Japan’s high schools, as well as Tokyo Academics’ college counseling process.

 

Our ideal candidate:

  • Has graduated from a top tier U.S. or U.K. University
  • Is very interested in working and living in Japan
  • Has a track record of achievement in school academics and standardized testing
  • Preferably has at least 2 years of college/admissions counseling experience, with demonstrated success in helping students receive offers to top schools.
  • For Boarding / International School Admissions Consultant:
    • Familiarity with boarding school or international admissions processes
    • Excellent written and spoken English; Japanese proficiency is a plus, given our international and Japan-based client base
  • For Art Portfolio Specialist:
    • Is proficient in multiple mediums/fields as an artist such as architecture, film, music and sound production, visual arts, photography, digital media, painting, sculpture, interior design, dance, and animation
  • Is passionate about mentorship, about engaging with students beyond their academics and playing a critical role in their success and character growth
  • Has strong communication and collaboration skills, and can thrive in a start-up environment
  • Is agile and able to respond to new information quickly and decisively

Work hours:

For Senior College Admissions Consultant and Operations Lead:

  • 20 to 40 hours/week, flexible
  • Working in-person from 10AM to 7PM Japan Standard Time

For College and Boarding School Admissions Consultant:

  • 10 to 20 hours per week, flexible schedule

For Art Portfolio Specialist:

  • 5 to 20 hours per week, flexible schedule

Work hours will align with the schedules of students in Tokyo, Japan. Peak hours of consulting range from 4pm to 10pm JST on weekdays, and 9am to 9pm JST on weekends
