Job Description

Global Step Academy is hiring Online Juken Teachers for part-time and full-time roles.

Global Step Academy (GSA) is hiring part-time online Juken Teachers to work with academically focused students in Japan. This role is ideal for experienced, reliable teachers who can commit to consistent weekly teaching blocks and who want a clear pathway for professional growth within GSA.  The students are in a Juken program and are on a path to compete in high stakes interviews in order to enter some of the most competitive schools in Japan.

What is a Juken Teacher at Global Step Academy?

Juken Teachers support upper elementary through junior high students in academically focused English learning with the purpose of taking high-stakes exams and interviews at the end of grade 6. This may include interview training,  Eiken preparation, entrance exam support and foundational language skill development.  Teachers are expected to deliver engaging, high-quality lessons with strong consistency, professionalism, and care.  All lesson plans are provided as well as compulsory paid training in order to build instructional expertise. Training and other meetings will be conducted online on designated dates.  All classes are conducted through the GSA online platform and are recorded for quality assurance.

This role is part of a structured teaching pathway at Global Step Academy. Teachers who demonstrate strong teaching quality, professionalism, consistency, and leadership potential may later be considered for advancement to Mentor Teacher. Teachers must first serve successfully as Juken Teachers before becoming eligible for the Mentor Teacher role.

Compensation

  • Juken Teacher teaching rate: ¥2,000 per hour
  • Non-teaching rate: ¥1,600 per hour
  • Non-teaching work may include paid training, class observation, meetings, and professional development
  • Future Mentor Teacher teaching rate: ¥2,100 to ¥2,500 per hour
  • Future Mentor Teacher non-teaching rate: ¥1,800 per hour

Schedule and work style

  • Part-time positions available
  • Primary role is online teaching
  • Teachers must be available for 4 to 6-hour teaching blocks
  • Minimum commitment: 2 teaching blocks per week
  • Teaching blocks are not required every day
  • Monthly paid training is included
  • Immediate start available
