Job Description

Description

This is a role for freelance Tour Leaders (multiple roles) in the Kyoto, Kanazawa and Matsumoto areas. As a Tour Leader, you will be responsible for leading guided tours and providing exceptional customer service to ensure an unforgettable experience for participants. Your day-to-day tasks will include liaising with partners (accommodations, restaurant, transportation companies etc) to make or reconfirm reservations, delivering tour related cultural and historical content and attending to the needs of your customers to ensure a safe and excellent experience. You will be required to have outstanding communication and organisational skills to successfully lead tours.

Fitness

Walk Japan's tours range from walking city to mountain hiking tours. For most tours, leaders must be reasonably physically fit and be able to walk/hike for up to five to six hours. For our tours climbing mountains a higher level of fitness and recognised competence/knowledge suitable for the terrain is required.

Knowledge of Japan

All tour leaders are expected to have lived in Japan for at least five years. Tour leaders must be interested in Japan including its history, traditions, culture and have a desire to continue learning about the country. Walk Japan provides tour leaders with thorough training and support including but not limited to materials to help lead tours. However, all Walk Japan tour leaders are expected to carry out their own research and improve their knowledge in order not only to improve their skills but also to add to the pool of knowledge shared between all at Walk Japan.

Language

All tour leaders must be fluent in the English language and have intermediate spoken and written Japanese. The interview process will include interviews in English and Japanese. Whilst the majority of Japanese spoken on the tours is upper conversational, tour leaders must be confident that they can communicate in an emergency situation.
