  • University graduate with at least a bachelor’s degree (in any subject)
  • 2 years of teaching experience, with at least one of those years as an ALT.
  • JLPT N3 or equivalent Japanese ability.
  • Flexibility - spend up to 4 months anywhere in Japan during the MT Training Program, and flexibility to be assigned in any region of Japan upon completion of the program.
  • Professional in all aspects of behavior.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A valid Japanese driver’s license, or willingness to obtain a Japanese driver's license during the MT Training Program.
  • Hold a valid residence/visa status and possess a valid Residence Card.

    It would be advantageous for candidates to have:

  • At least 1-year prior experience in a business environment, any industry.
  • JLPT N2 or higher Japanese ability.
  • Prior experience in a leadership role.

Job Description

Interac is hiring for motivated individuals to join their Management Trainee Program. The Management Trainee (MT) Program is a unique program created by the Interac Group to develop driven individuals to be successful in a staff position in the ALT industry. Specifically designed to build skills, MTs undergo three months of operational and management skills training.

The program begins with a series of seminars and workshops designed to train MTs in the fundamentals of all aspects of ALT management and at the same time, MTs will undergo on-the-job training. In later phases of the program, MTs may continue their on-the-job training in various roles and responsibilities in Interac offices across Japan. Eligible MTs may be hired for staff positions any time after completing the three-month operational skills training component. Successful Management Trainees should be flexible in their expectations, both in terms of assignment type and assignment location, which may be determined by the aptitude of individual MTs and the needs of the company.

Through the MT programme, you will have the opportunity to boost your skills in the following areas;
-Develop critical leadership and influencing skills
-Use your ALT experience to mentor other teachers
-Work in a bilingual Japanese business environment, improving your Japanese language skills and developing a deeper understanding of the Japanese corporate environment.
-Work with a diverse team of professionals from a variety of different backgrounds.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Being assigned to work in the Tokyo Head Office as an office staff member.
  • Being assigned to an Interac Branch Office as an office staff member and/or as a teacher for up to four (4) months in one calendar year. No assignment to a branch office shall be longer than two (2) months in length unless there is a separate agreement between the Employer and MT. In the event that the MT is assigned to a Branch Office and this is would require commuting for greater than 2 hours one way, Interac will provide accommodation and cover all rent and other accommodation costs, except utility payments.

Tasks and Duties 

Assigned tasks and duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Recruiting (including, but not limited to, supporting advertising and marketing efforts, candidate screening and conducting interviews, document checking and processing, placement).
  • Training (including, but not limited to, conducting initial and ongoing training sessions and instructor meetings at various locations, providing individual support to instructors as necessary, planning and developing materials and curricula).
  • Observing instructors in the classroom. This includes pre-observation and follow-up one-on-one consultations and additional training as needed.
  • Assisting other staff in any duties assigned by the MT supervisor.
  • Acting as a liaison between instructors and sales, staff and management personnel.
  • Promoting company spirit and morale and generally contributing to a beneficial work environment for all employees.
  • Attending training sessions and meetings as required by the MT's supervisor.
  • Completing online or correspondence training assigned by the MT's supervisor.
  • Orienting, counselling and/or disciplining instructors on matters of company policy or procedures.
  • Substituting for classes or other assignments, when necessary, due to instructor illness or other such emergencies.
  • Consulting with his/her manager on a regular or daily basis.
  • Representing the employer to clients or other organizations as required by his/her manager.

The exact responsibilities and duties of an individual MT will be determined based on the needs of his or her branch and will be assigned by the MT's manager.
