About Washington Institute of Language

The Washington Institute of Language is located in downtown Kumamoto, a medium-sized city in southwestern Japan. The city is noted for its famous Kumamoto castle, which was home to a samurai lord, and for the natural surrounding environment. The city is within an hour’s drive of the most beautiful Mt. Aso and the western sea Amakusa. Summers are hot and humid, while winters infrequently see snow. As a metropolitan area, you’ll find Starbucks, KFC, McDonald’s and Baskin Robbins, as well as traditional Japanese cuisine, shops and entertainment.
