Yajima Kindergarten is a preschool in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, which began in 1974 and will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.

Now we have 240 children aged between 3 and 5 years old.
Children as they are
Our childcare philosophy is “children as they are”. Children are truly precious just by being there. Rather than saying that adults educate children, it is we, the caregivers, who are expected to be as pure and straightforward as the children. Every day in kindergarten is a growing experience. They are nurtured through playing freely and interacting with their friends and teachers. In these two kinds of growing up processes, we take care of the children in our daily care, valuing each child’s individual thoughts and feelings in the here and now.
