Job Description
Paradigm is a leading digital creative and publishing company in Tokyo. Right now, we’re looking for an experienced writer and editor to become our Head of Communications Strategy and Head of Copy full time.
What we do
At Paradigm, we do a lot of different kinds of work, including branding, website design, and video and motion graphics production. We’ve been in business for more than 30 years and have worked with some truly great brands along the way, such as Kokuyo, Olympus, Wix, LIXIL, IHG, and Servcorp.
What you’ll do
If you want to be a successful candidate, the responsibilities you’ll have to be able to handle — and handle well from day one — include:
- developing and supporting communications strategy for clients in different industries
- supporting the creative director and design team with ideation and concept development
- creating brand positioning and key messaging
- following client briefs and tone of voice guidelines to write and edit website text, video scripts, marketing materials, digital advertising campaigns, reports, and whatever else clients need us to do — to the highest professional standard
- evaluating content for quality
- keeping a smile on your face through it all
In other words, the person we’re looking for is a communications expert with strong writing and editing skills who will support the creative director and design team with whatever word-related jobs need to be done.
What we’re looking for
We really need you be someone who:
- is a skilled writer, committed to excellence in your writing
- has a minimum of five years of writing and editing experience
- is a native English speaker
- has some familiarity with SEO
- feels kind of happy when people call you pedantic, a stickler, or a grammar grouch
- is detail-oriented to a fault
- relishes keeping everything organized and in order
- understands the importance of double- and triple-checking facts for accuracy (and does it)
- loves reading and research
- is OK banging away at the keyboard for long stretches
- but also enjoys jumping into a brainstorming session with the team
- can multi-task and deal with pressure
- considers it important to always keep improving your writing and editing skills
- is a fast, willing, and able learner
- stays up to date with developments in AI and how it can effectively be integrated into work processes
- doesn’t mind taking instruction and won’t hold onto opinions too tightly, especially if told to do so by a colleague (or a client)
- and, ideally, has Japanese language skills at an N2 level or higher
A few requests
We’re a small team, so we need someone who’s genuinely excited about an opportunity like this and who’s serious about doing great work. That means we’re not going to consider applications without cover letters.
The cover letter you submit will have been lovingly crafted, tailored to this specific position, and will not show any traces of AI support. You’ll also need to submit a portfolio with samples of your writing.
We will only consider candidates who have a valid work visa or who are eligible to live and work in Japan.
Just so you know, we’ll only be contacting candidates who are shortlisted for an interview.
(And no phone calls about this, please. Thanks.)
We’re really looking forward to hearing from you.
