Job Description
Job Overview
Are you an educator already living in Japan who wants a stable schedule, active local engagement, and a supportive team environment? Link Interac is looking for a professional domestic candidate for an ALT position in Watarai Town, Mie Prefecture, starting this September. This position centers around public elementary school teaching and local community interaction, making it ideal for a versatile instructor who loves working with young learners and building deep roots in a regional Japanese town.
Enrich through education
At Interac, our Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) go beyond teaching grammar rules to inspire cross-cultural harmony and real-world communication. In this role, you will help young learners build confidence and curiosity. By co-teaching with Japanese teachers and leading lively language activities, you will act as a vital cultural ambassador and a key part of your public school's daily community life.
About being an ALT with Interac
This position offers a dynamic instructional environment focused on early childhood and primary communication. During the week, you will be placed at a local elementary school (ES), supporting the main classroom teacher, preparing interactive activities, and diving into school life (with some community eikaiwa and kids' classes on Saturdays). This role suits someone who is professional, flexible, energetic, and possesses conversational Japanese proficiency (JLPT N3 level or equivalent) to coordinate effectively with local staff and parents.
Why Watarai Town
Choosing Watarai Town means experiencing Japan in real life, away from the standard city concrete. Nestled in the lush, green heart of Mie Prefecture along the pristine Miya River, Watarai offers an authentic, welcoming countryside lifestyle where you can truly connect with local residents.
Local life: Watarai is famous for its rolling green tea plantations producing aromatic Ise tea. The local community is exceptionally warm and welcoming, making it easy to build a comfortable local life and establish strong relationships at your schools.
Things to do: Enjoy outdoor photography, riverside camping, and seasonal events at Miya River Watarai Park, a locally famous hidden gem for cherry blossom viewing. When you want to explore further, you are just a short drive away from the historic streets of Ise City, the sacred Ise Jingu shrine, and the stunning coastlines of the Ise-Shima region.
Access and lifestyle: Because Watarai Town is a scenic regional town, there is no passenger rail service within the municipal borders. A car is an absolute daily necessity here. Driving through the countryside allows you to enjoy a completely stress-free commute, a lower cost of living, and an exceptional work-life balance surrounded by nature.
What you can expect as an Interac ALT
- Predictable income: Standardized salary structure providing stable cash flow throughout the school year.
- Paid initial training: Start your new placement with confidence after a comprehensive orientation session.
- Professional development: Access to ongoing skills development, workshops, and peer support networks.
- Work-life balance: Clear, professional expectations across your school placement schedule.
- Local branch backup: Strong support from our Kansai Central branch team to help you navigate school operations.
Requirements
- Degree: University graduate holding at least a bachelor's degree in any subject.
- Language skills: Native-level English proficiency and conversational Japanese proficiency (approximately JLPT N3 level or equivalent) for smooth staff and parent communication.
- Residence status: Must currently reside in Japan and hold a valid residence status/visa permitting work, along with a valid Residence Card.
- Driving status: Hold a valid Japanese driver's license or international driver's license and be fully confident driving a car daily.
- Experience: Previous experience teaching children or working as an ALT/instructor in Japan is highly preferred.
- Professional traits: Cheerful, flexible, team-oriented, and highly enthusiastic about working closely with young learners.
