This position is relatively unique in that it is largely student-facing, yet there is also a fair amount of written correspondence via monthly newsletters and Official LINE. Below are the skills the candidate should currently have or be willing to develop.
Minimum Requirements
- Native-level Japanese written and spoken communication skills
- Strong English Communicative ability
- Able to communicate clearly, warmly, and professionally with parents, students, and staff
- Currently living in and legally able to work in Japan
- Enjoys working with children and families
- Comfortable working in a lively, child-centered environment
- Organized, reliable, and able to manage small details
- Comfortable using basic digital tools such as Google Workspace, LINE for parent communication, and Canva or similar design tools
- Able to work full-time and support school events such as Summer School, Halloween, Spring School, and other seasonal events
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with children
- Experience in an English school, preschool, after-school program, children’s program, office, or customer service role
- Creative skills such as drawing, design, illustration, or visual communication
- Experience helping with event planning, scheduling, or school operations
- Interest in children’s education, English learning, school management, or long-term professional growth
- Interest in learning more about children’s English teaching

Job Description
About ELF:
ELF Kids English School opened in 2001 and is an established children’s English communication school in Omihachiman, Shiga. We work with children from preschool through junior high school. We run a unique "rotational" system, where students are in the school anywhere from 75 ~ 120 minutes. Students start in the lobby with the Minna no Sensei, and then rotate into the Communication Classroom and then the Skills Classroom.
About the Position:
We are looking for a full-time Classroom Manager / Minna no Sensei. It is about being someone the children know, the parents trust, and the teachers can rely on.
The position includes:

- helping maintain a clean and welcoming environment
Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for someone who is organized and is a great communicator. Strong English and Japanese ability are important, but this position requires more than language skills. We want ELF students to see this person as an example of what they can be: friendly, fearless, and fun!
A good sense of humor is important. We take children’s education seriously, but we also laugh a lot, play a lot, and try to make ELF a place where both children and adults enjoy coming each week.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities include:
- Homework correction and feedback
- Helping direct student self-study
- Maintaining the school library
- Communicating with parents through our LINE Official Account
- Creating newsletters and announcements
- School event planning and support
- Creating the yearly class schedule
- Keeping classroom iPads updated and charged
- Supporting teachers and students
- Keeping the school clean and organized
After appropriate training, the successful applicant may occasionally be asked to help cover classes when teachers are sick or unavailable.
