Job Description
Berry English International Preschool, a small, family-run, child-led English immersion preschool in Kawagoe, Saitama, Japan, is growing! Due to a recent rise in interest from new students, we seek dedicated and enthusiastic teacher to join our team. We are currently seeking a Support Teacher with the potential to become a Lead Practitioner. This role is ideal for candidates passionate about child-led learning and play-based education.
About Us:
Berry fosters a genuine play-based, child-led approach to education. We believe every child is unique, and play is essential in early years education. Our program includes Forest School, where children spend Mondays and Fridays in a local protected woodland, engaging in outdoor activities regardless of most weather conditions.
Role Stages:
- Support Teacher: One year with a three-month probationary period. You will support our existing team and have opportunities for professional development.
- Lead Practitioner: Potential promotion after one year, based on dedication, performance, and knowledge in emergent curriculums, child-led learning, and early years education. Early promotion is possible for exceptionally dedicated and skilled candidates.
Training Program
Our training system is designed to support new teachers transitioning into their roles. As a new team member, you will assist the current Lead Practitioner and support them in their day-to-day tasks, learning on the job. You will have access to a wealth of materials, both physical and online, to aid your professional growth. Additionally, you will benefit from the excellent professional development programs offered by the Tokyo Association of International Preschools (TAIP) of which we are a proud institutional member, providing you with ongoing opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
We only assign key children to team members once they are ready to take on the responsibility.
Responsibilities:
- Support the existing teaching team with classroom and outdoor activities
- Engage children in play-based learning and exploration
- Develop and implement child-led learning experiences
- Participate in Forest School activities twice a week
- Collaborate with colleagues to foster a supportive and nurturing learning environment
