We are currently seeking a dedicated educator for a hybrid ALT/Main Teacher position, combining four days of ALT duties with language school teaching once a week in the evening and on Saturdays. The teacher will be working at Funagata and Okura Junior High schools, living in the Shinjo area of Yamagata prefecture.

Position Overview

  • Work Schedule: 5 days per week (Tue-Sat)
  • Salary: ¥270,000–¥290,000/month
  • Responsibilities:
    • Teach various classes for students ranging from kindergarten to adults.
    • Classes include group and one-on-one lessons, with some evening sessions.
    • Cooperate with homeroom teachers at Junior High Schools.

Why Choose MY?

  • Flexible Time Off: Enjoy 15 flexible holidays/year plus national holidays from day one, with no required office hours for lesson preparation.
  • Relocation Support: Receive up to ¥200,000 in relocation assistance and help with securing housing, transportation, and navigating life in Japan.
  • Professional Growth:
    • One month of paid onboarding training and 10 full-day training sessions annually.
    • Opportunities to join teams in Curriculum Development, Professional Development, Hiring, Leadership, or Marketing—each offering monthly bonuses and reduced teaching hours.
    • Career advancement with management roles open to all staff, regardless of nationality.
    • Access skills to progress to university teaching roles or advanced education degrees.
  • Community & Development:
    • Join a diverse team of educators from 11 countries.
    • Benefit from MY-sponsored memberships in JALT (Japan Association for Language Teaching) and ETJ (English Teachers in Japan).
  • Long-Term Opportunities: Apply to become a permanent employee (seishain) after completing your first contract, with enhanced benefits.

What We Expect

  • Commitment to Excellence: Dedication to high-quality teaching and active participation in our school’s community.
  • Growth-Oriented: Willingness to learn, listen to feedback, and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Collaborative Spirit: A proactive and team-oriented approach to teaching and professional development.

What Teachers Say

“Even when my school was 50 km away from the closest MY location, I’ve felt more part of a team than at places where the next location was only 5 km away.”
Mike Masse (Joined MY in 2010)

“Many jobs talk about the need to develop oneself professionally and to learn new skills. MY puts time and money toward ensuring that we do those things.”
Aaron Spooner (Joined MY in 2013)

Vetting Process

  1. Submit an application and answer education-related questions.
  2. Attend an online interview.
  3. Participate in a demo day at a MY location to meet our team and experience our teaching environment.
  4. Receive an offer of employment.
