Applicants must meet one of the following qualification routes:

• At least a 60-hour online TEFL certificate, or equivalent, plus at least 3 months of teaching experience
• A CELTA, Trinity Cert TESOL or other recognized initial English teaching qualification

Job summary

Shane Corporation is hiring part-time English teachers for Shane English Schools in Tokyo and the wider Kanto region. This role is for teachers who want regular part-time shifts, paid training and the chance to teach children, teens and adults in private and small-group lessons.

Quick details

• Position: Part-time English teacher
• Location: Selected Shane schools in Tokyo and the Kanto region
• Commute: Average travel time is about 45 minutes from your home station to the school station
• Schedule: Full-day Saturday and Sunday shifts are the main need. Weekday full-day and weekday evening shifts may also be available
• Pay: 15,000 yen per full day, or 3,000 yen per hour for evening and partial-day shifts
• Contract: Renewable 12-month part-time contract
• Travel costs: Fully paid within company policy

What you will do

You will teach communicative English lessons using Shane's in-house curriculum and approved teaching materials. Lessons include conversation, grammar and skill-based classes matched to student needs.

• Teach private and small-group English lessons without an assistant
• Prepare and deliver lessons for students of different ages and levels
• Follow Shane's syllabus and school-approved materials
• Write simple lesson records and progress notes when required
• Work with school staff to support students and maintain a professional classroom environment
