Required

  • Fluent English communication skills.
  • A caring, patient, and responsible attitude toward young children.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and support a homeroom teacher or lead caregiver.
  • Comfort helping with daily childcare routines, including meals, hygiene, play, rest, and transitions.

Preferred

  • Certification, diploma, or coursework in early childhood education, childcare, nursing, pediatric care, welfare, or a related field.
  • Experience in a nursery, preschool, kindergarten, babysitting, nanny, childcare, or caregiving role.
  • First Aid or CPR certification, or willingness to obtain it.
  • Japanese language ability is welcome, but not required.
  • Candidates currently living in Japan are preferred.

Job Description

Role overview: This is a full-time nursery support teacher and childcare assistant job in Tokyo with Laurus International School of Science. The role is best for an English-speaking childcare professional who enjoys caring for children ages 1.5 to 6 in an international preschool or kindergarten setting.

Laurus International School of Science is a STEM-focused international school network in Tokyo. Children learn through inquiry, hands-on science, technology, literacy, numeracy, projects, and school events. The nursery support teacher helps make that learning possible by keeping the classroom safe, calm, and well organized.

What this role does

  • Support the homeroom teacher with daily classroom routines and activities.
  • Care for children’s safety, hygiene, comfort, and emotional well-being throughout the day.
  • Help during snack time, lunch, play, rest periods, bathroom routines, and class transitions.
  • Prepare materials and keep the classroom clean, safe, and ready for learning.
  • Build warm, professional relationships with children, parents, teachers, and school staff.
  • Support social and emotional development through play, conversation, and daily care.

Who this job is for

This position suits someone patient, reliable, and comfortable working closely with young children. It is a good match for candidates with experience in childcare, nursery care, preschool, kindergarten, babysitting, nanny work, pediatric care, or classroom support.

English fluency is required. Japanese ability is helpful, but not required. Preference is given to candidates already living in Japan.

Pay, schedule, and benefits

  • Salary: ¥200,000 to ¥250,000 per month, negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week.
  • Insurance: health, social, and employment insurance.
  • Transportation allowance: up to ¥20,000 per month.
  • Bonus: performance-based bonus available.
  • Training: continuing professional development opportunities.
  • Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, annual paid leave, and about two weeks of school holidays.
